2011 is a special year for Sud Est Indipendente, perhaps the most artistically full-bodied edition. Headliners include Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Kiddycar, Vinicio Capossela, Piet Mondrian and One Dimensional Man.
On Wednesday, July 20th, the festival opens on the Soul Food stage in Torre dell’Orso with a performance by Apulian singer-songwriter Valentina Gravili.
On Friday, July 22th, however, it is the turn of Lombroso . The duo, composed of Dario Ciffo (guitar and vocals) and Agostino Nascimbeni (guitar) took the stage at the Ducal Palace in San Cesario (Lecce).
On Thursday, July 28th, the festival moved toArci Rubik in Guagnano, where Kiddycar performed songs from the album “Sunlit Silence”. The opening space was given to Sycamore Age, a project born in early 2010 by Francesco Chimenti, Davide Andreoni and later Giovanni Ferretti, with production by Stefano Santoni.
Friday, July 29th, continues atArci Rubik with Piet Mondrian, a “musical complex” composed of Michele Baldini and Caterina Polidori. The band also offers on stage the thirteen tracks from “Misanthropicana,” an album recorded at Kasparhouse Studio in Ponte a Egola between September 2009 and January 2010.
On Monday, August 1st, Sud Est Indipendente returns to Soul Food in Torre dell’Orso with a live performance by Oh Petroleum. The singer-songwriter ffrom Salento offered a concert in which his voice told a music that speaks of sounds and atmospheres of America.
Sunday, Aug. 07 was the penultimate event at Torcito Park in Cannole (Lecce) with a full-bodied live set, consisting of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, One Dimensional Man, Dellera . Also on stage with them wereKing Mastino, Idol Lips and Lola and The Lovers.
On Tuesday, August 9th, it’s back to Cannole for the last date of Sud Est Indipendente. Undisputed protagonist of the closing event is Vinicio Capossela. Since its beginning in 2006, the SEI has declared its vocation to choose heterogeneous groups and projects, to transform itself every time expanding the horizon of its proposals to offer to its audience a broad and varied overview of the music looking for different genres, from punk to singer-songwriter, from rock to ska, from folk to the upbeat rhythms. In the different locations of Salento that have hosted the festival, took turns artists like Kings of Convenience, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Cat Power, Baustelle, Gogol Bordello, Bugo, Skatalites, Daniele Silvestri, Verdena, Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, Vallanzaska, Teatro degli Orrori, One Dimensional Man, Russell Leetch, Is Tropical, Populous, Giuda, Fast Animals and Slow Kids, Mannarino, Avion Travel, Negrita, Calibro 35, Brunori Sas, Amor Fou, Lombroso, Dellera and many other Italian and Apulian realities such as Crifiu, Mascarimirì, Mery Fiore, Sofia Brunetta, La Gente, Una.
